Motivations of Successful Support Families
Successful Support Families have different motivations for becoming a Support Family. Sometimes they have a family member or friend with a disability or have worked in the disability field and want to use that experience to help a child. Sometimes they have had traditional foster care experience but want the long-term relationship that being a Support Family can offer. Sometimes they feel a spiritual calling or a need to give to others. Sometimes becoming a Support Family is a way to fulfill a desire to continue parenting after their own children are grown. Sometimes they want to be a stay-at-home parent with some extra income. Some families want to help another family in difficult circumstances, and some are attracted by the opportunity to combine having an income with doing something they love. |
