Texas Provider Agencies
There are two types of agencies in Texas that recruit, certify, support, and monitor Support Families.
1. Agencies that contract with the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) as Medicaid Waiver Providers
Medicaid Waiver Providers can certify families under two Medicaid Waiver programs:
- Home and Community-based Services (HCS) Waiver
- Community Living Assistance and Support Services (CLASS) Waiver.
Medicaid waivers are typically used to pay for services for children whose parents are voluntarily seeking the service.
2. Agencies that contract with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) as Child Placing Agencies
DFPS certifies foster families and contracts with Child Placing Agencies who can certify foster families. DFPS and Child Placing Agencies pay and oversee Support Families to care for children who are in the child protective services system whose parents’ rights have been restricted or terminated.
