Supporting Parents
Families who struggle to care for their children with disabilities at home need alternatives to placement in facilities. To offer a viable alternative to placement in a facility, service systems need to create sufficient support for families to enable them to successfully care for their children at home. Support can come in many forms. It can come from technology, formal service providers, and community resources. Sometimes support means physical help, sometimes it means financial help, sometimes it means help with problem-solving, sometimes it means concrete things like equipment, home modifications, or vehicle modifications. Because each family and each child is unique, the support they get must be tailored to their individual situation to be effective. |
